Essential Mallorca is an online magazine that strives simply to inform and entertain.  Yes, lofty ambitions indeed, and it is not altogether clear if we’ve succeeded in either of these aims thus far; but we keep trying.  The mid-term report must surely be, ‘must do better’.

Despite its apparent youth, Essential Mallorca is actually somewhat longer in the tooth than you might think.  As recently as June 2009, Essential Mallorca was going strong until the editor had an idea.  Not since William Shakespeare awoke one midsummer’s night after a dream to declare “I have an idea for a play!” has there been an idea as inspired as this one.  It essentially involved suspending the site for several months in order to do something far less important, while at the same time neglecting to pay the hosting company the monthly fee.

And so it was that all things Essential Mallorca were cast off into the great electronic ether never to be seen again.  Much of what was lost was brilliant, truly inspired writing that regretfully can never be recreated owing to the fact it was written under the influence of nicotine and alcohol.  Now cleansed of these two particular poisons, the editor has not only lost the ability to think rational thoughts, he has lost the ability to think thoughts.  Still, he tries his best.

We should also stress that this venture is not strictly a money making one.  While the thought there might be some financial reward for all this effort is appealing, it is very much a secondary consideration.  We are therefore perfectly willing to publicise local businesses, particularly start-ups, free and without condition.  At the same time, any offers to purchase ad space will be considered and enthusiastically accepted.
